About the Collection

For Whom the Bell Tolls is set during the Spanish Civil War and follows Robert Jordan, an American volunteer fighting with the Republican forces, as he undertakes a dangerous mission in the mountains.

The Old Man and the Sea tells the story of Santiago, an aging Cuban fisherman engaged in an extraordinary struggle with a giant marlin. The novel explores perseverance, dignity, courage, and humanity's relationship with nature.

Green Hills of Africa draws on Hemingway's experiences on safari in East Africa, combining observations of landscape, hunting, travel, and the author's reflections on writing and literature.

A Farewell to Arms is set against the backdrop of the First World War and follows American ambulance officer Frederic Henry and his relationship with Catherine Barkley amid the violence and uncertainty of war.

The Sun Also Rises follows a group of expatriates travelling from France to Spain, capturing the disillusionment, relationships, and search for meaning associated with the post-World War I Lost Generation.

In Our Time brings together Hemingway's early short fiction and vignettes, introducing the spare, understated style that became one of the defining characteristics of his writing.
