About the Collection

Jennifer Mathieu's young adult fiction often places teenagers in situations where social expectations, family pressures, rumours, and community attitudes force them to question what they have been told and decide who they want to become. This collection brings together four of her earlier novels, each offering a distinct story and setting.

Moxie follows Vivian Carter, a high-school student who becomes frustrated with sexism and double standards at her Texas school. Inspired by her mother's Riot Grrrl past, Vivian anonymously creates a feminist zine that begins to inspire other students and grow into a wider movement.

The Truth About Alice centres on Alice Franklin, whose reputation is damaged by rumours following the death of a popular football player. The story is told through multiple students' perspectives, gradually revealing how gossip, secrets, assumptions, and personal motives shape the way Alice is perceived.

Devoted follows Rachel Walker, whose highly controlled life within a conservative religious community begins to change when she encounters someone who has previously left that community. Rachel starts questioning the expectations surrounding her future and considers what it means to make choices for herself.

The Liars of Mariposa Island is set during the summer of 1986 and follows Elena and Joaquin Finney as their family circumstances, relationships, and experiences on Mariposa Island become increasingly complicated.

Why This Set Works

This collection brings together four character-driven YA novels that examine identity • friendship • family • social expectations • gender equality • rumours and reputation • independence • courage • belonging.

The books are standalone stories rather than a connected series, making the collection suitable for readers who want to explore different aspects of Mathieu's fiction and themes.

Wicked Years Series 4 Books Collection Set: Wicked, Son of a Witch, A Lion Among Men & Out of Oz - Gregory Maguire

Store owner replied: Hi Toni! We aim to find special collections! So glad you found us. These are published by a friend who owns a large company abroad! His books are lovely:-) They also have a paperback version I believe... So happy you are happy!

My experience with The Reading Spa was nothing but pleasurable. I ordered the Avatar book set as a gift for my partners birthday. I sent en email to check on shipping and arrival time to see if they could send it out before his birthday. They got back to me right away, said they would send it out as soon as they could, and were very friendly to converse with. There was one book missing that they addressed in our email exchange that hadn’t arrived for them yet. They took the time to send what was there so I could present the gift, and as soon as the other book arrived for them they sent it out immediately. I was able to present my gift on time, and my partner was so thrilled with it all thanks to them. I couldn’t recommend this place more!
