Discover the remarkable friendship and creative fellowship between C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien in The Mythmakers, an illustrated graphic-novel biography by John Hendrix. Following the two writers from their early lives and experiences during World War I to their meeting at Oxford, their years with the Inklings, and the development of their legendary works, this engaging volume explores the ideas, friendships, and shared influences behind two of the most important names in modern fantasy. All of our books are brand new.

About the Book

The Mythmakers tells the intertwined story of J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis, showing how their friendship and intellectual exchange influenced their creative lives.

John Hendrix combines prose with narrative comic panels and illustrations, tracing their childhoods, wartime experiences, first meeting at Oxford in 1929, involvement with the Inklings, and the publication and legacy of their major works.

The book also explores Tolkien's world-building, Lewis and Tolkien's different approaches to myth and storytelling, the relationship between mythology and faith, the value of fantasy, and the creative community surrounding the Inklings. It considers the connections and differences between The Lord of the Rings and The Chronicles of Narnia.

Why This Book Works

Unlike a conventional literary biography, The Mythmakers uses the graphic-novel format to make the lives, friendship, ideas, and creative development of Lewis and Tolkien accessible through a combination of illustration, narrative, historical context, and commentary. It is particularly appealing to readers interested in Tolkien, Lewis, fantasy literature, literary history, and the Inklings.

Wicked Years Series 4 Books Collection Set: Wicked, Son of a Witch, A Lion Among Men & Out of Oz - Gregory Maguire

Store owner replied: Hi Toni! We aim to find special collections! So glad you found us. These are published by a friend who owns a large company abroad! His books are lovely:-) They also have a paperback version I believe... So happy you are happy!

My experience with The Reading Spa was nothing but pleasurable. I ordered the Avatar book set as a gift for my partners birthday. I sent en email to check on shipping and arrival time to see if they could send it out before his birthday. They got back to me right away, said they would send it out as soon as they could, and were very friendly to converse with. There was one book missing that they addressed in our email exchange that hadn’t arrived for them yet. They took the time to send what was there so I could present the gift, and as soon as the other book arrived for them they sent it out immediately. I was able to present my gift on time, and my partner was so thrilled with it all thanks to them. I couldn’t recommend this place more!
